Frequently Asked Questions
How do I add a custom store?
Go to the Stores tab and tap the + button. You can name the store, choose a layout style, and add aisles with your own section names. Grocery Map Pro allows unlimited custom stores; the free tier includes one.
My items aren't showing in the right aisle — how do I fix this?
Tap any item in your list to edit it and assign it to the correct aisle for that store. Grocery Map remembers each item's aisle on a per-store basis.
How does the smart route work?
Grocery Map sorts your list by aisle order so you move through the store efficiently without backtracking. Grocery Map Pro adds advanced strategies like putting cold and frozen items last, ending at the registers, and more.
How do I import items from a photo or recipe?
Tap Import on the list screen and choose one of the import sources (photo, clipboard, Reminders, or file). The photo import reads the text from your image and suggests items to add. Import is a Grocery Map Pro feature.
What does Grocery Map Pro include?
- Unlimited custom stores
- Unlimited Quick Meals
- Full shopping history & analytics
- Auto-Add Staples from past trips
- All import sources (photo, clipboard, Reminders, file)
- Map image & PDF export
- Advanced route strategies
- Premium accent colors & alternate app icons
How do I cancel my Pro subscription?
Open the Settings app on your iPhone → tap your Apple ID at the top → Subscriptions → tap Grocery Map → Cancel Subscription. You keep Pro access until the end of the current billing period.
Is my data backed up?
Your shopping lists, store layouts, and history are stored locally on your device and backed up via iCloud if iCloud Backup is enabled in Settings. Community store layouts shared through the app are stored in iCloud CloudKit.
Do you collect or sell my data?
No. Grocery Map has no analytics SDKs, no ads, and no third-party trackers. Your lists, stores, and shopping history stay on your device (and your own private iCloud, if Backup is on). The main data that leaves your device is what you publish to the Community tab: a store layout you choose to publish (shown publicly), plus the upvotes and reports you submit — tied to your iCloud identifier so each person counts once. A few optional features also send data to Apple to work — for example, dictation goes to Apple for transcription and finding nearby stores uses Apple Maps — but that goes to Apple, never to us. We never sell data of any kind. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.
How do I add a custom item that isn't in the catalog?
Type it into the search bar on the List tab, then tap the Add row that appears. The item goes into the "Other" category, and you can reassign it to the correct aisle from the Edit Store screen so it routes properly next time.
What does the number badge on an item mean?
When item weighting is set to "Last 10 visits," the badge shows how many of your last 10 trips at that store included the item. Higher numbers mean it's more of a staple for you, so it's easier to spot the things you always buy.
Does Grocery Map work offline?
Yes — everything except the Community tab works fully offline. Apple Maps search and publishing or browsing community layouts need an internet connection.
How does the Grocery Map Pro subscription bill?
Grocery Map Pro is an auto-renewing subscription offered monthly or annually. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription automatically renews unless it is canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime in your Apple Account settings. See the Terms of Use for full details.
Do you offer refunds?
All purchases are processed by Apple, and refund requests are handled by Apple under their standard policies. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com. The Grocery Map team cannot issue refunds directly.
How do I report inappropriate content in the Community?
Tap the ••• menu on any shared store layout and choose Report. You can flag content as spam, inappropriate, or inaccurate, and you can block an author so their layouts no longer appear for you. Layouts that receive multiple reports are automatically hidden, and submitted names and layouts are run through an automatic content filter before publishing. We don't tolerate objectionable content or abusive users.
